  • Dave,I bought the Pika/AD200 at the weekend, I also got the dual smart bracket (think its called AD-B2 your side of the water) with a view to getting another Pika 200 in a few months. It does have 2 LED modelling lights which aren't really that good…
  • Hi Dave, thanks for your feedback.  I see that the kits vary slightly between the brand versions.  Many people are replacing their AD360's with these even though slightly less powerful.  The dual bracket mount mount looks very interesting also ther…
  • Dave, looks a nice bit of kit was looking  at the AD200's a while back. Interested to know what you think of it once you've put it through its paces. Tony
  • Dave... I did read a review on various 70-200 lenses and the Tamron came out very well indeed certainly worth considering for that f/2.8 aperture when compared to the price of the canon f/2.8. Merry Xmas Dave and to all Tangents followers.
  • Dave...For me a lens purchase would take priority over  a camera upgrade, imo building up a set of quality lenses will help you out more than the next upgrade of camera.  I see some amazing images on the forums (tangents) etc. then you see the camer…
  • Dave I don't think you're doing anything particularly wrong at all, you have to remember that light picks up the colour  of everything it bounces off. You have a big blue table cloth in front of both women which is reflecting a blue cast on to them,…
  • Some people use smart folders for sorting images by location as you've suggested, I use them firstly for the  raw edit process and lastly for selecting images for FB or those I want to edit further in PS (using * rating), I tend to use keywords for …
  • Completely agree Dave, you did well there under those conditions.
  • Dave, I think these are default LR smart folders.Smart folders (collections) are dynamic and not just static collections that you move images to, so the content of folder  varies depending on what you do to the image. You could setup a colour code or…
  • Difficult situation is that one, the location grabs you to take the shot with the marina as the background.  Did you have time to try turning them with their backs to the sun, may have been worth doing despite the not so good background.
  • DaveSmart folders have a query attached to them, i.e. the first in your list 'Coloured Red' which will contain any images that have given a red colour tag to.These are the default ones but you can make your own smart collections with whatever logic …
  • Dave, I completely agree with what you did there I would have done the same. As you and many others have said you need to assist and second shoot a good few times, you don't want to be practicing with paid clients. On the subject of posing I'm making…
  • Mary, if you use AV mode you will need to change your 'flash sync speed in Av mode' setting, which is probably set to the cameras max flash sync speed. Change this to auto then camera will operate the shutter at the required speed for correct exposu…
  • I suspect that your flash sync speed in AV mode was fixed to either 1/60th or between 1/60th and the cameras max flash sync speed.Hence when it was sunny your cameras light meter would have been dictating a higher shutter speed but was being overrid…
  • Battery packs are a big boon, so wouldn't really want to rely solely on AA's again for future speedlite purchases.Good to know that you are impressed with the YN 568II though, if they ever do bring one out that has an external power socket I'll snap…
  • Thanks Dave, that's a shame as I do prefer to use speedlites with a battery pack. Mind you for the money it's probably still worth getting one as an addition my existing speedlites. Maybe yongnuo will bring out a flash that accepts an external batte…
  • Great stuff Dave, pleased it's working correctly now. Just out of curiosity does the yongnuo 568EX II have an external power socket?
  • Dave the TX should change the zoom of the flash head, if it doesn't then just do a factory reset of the transceiver the flash is sat on and it should be good. I had this issue with one transceiver and the reset sorted it out and has worked fine sinc…
  • Sorry Dave just spotted this. If you still want the make and a pic I'll do that tomorrow when I'm back home but reading your post above I see your issue, that strip of rubber is causing you some problems. Can it be removed easily?
  • I (the wife) managed to find a card with 10 hair bands on in 2 sizes (at Tescos), the larger ones were a perfect fit for the 580 just the right grip but allowing ease of movement.
  • You just need larger dia. hair bands, I use just the one for easier manipulation.
  • Trev, Thanks  for posting the links, some great articles to go at there, they will certainly be of help.As the saying goes there's more than one way to skin a cat, some methods are better than others though, that's certainly true of PS.Skip the abov…
  • Hope it works for you skip. You may find my 2nd suggestion easier using a levels adjustment layer, the mask is automatically created all you need to do is paint with black over the subject (on the mask). If you press 'd' your fore/back ground colours …
  • Skip, that's where the layer mask comes in, after you've done the initial colour select, click on the layer mask button. The white  areas will be what the 'select-colour range' made, as you found, it selected areas of subject you didn't want, maskin…
  • Skip, Have you tried making a selection using colour range, from the menu goto: select - colour range then use the eye dropper and sample the grey background, use the fuzziness slider to alter the sensitivity. I'd make a layer mask from this selecti…
