Rhonda,

The Quantum T5D-R can be fired by the Pocket Wizards no problem.

No need to worry about being camera specific, since the normal Pocket Wizards Plus II units are non-specific, they fit on hotshoe [or via a sync cord to camera's sync socket], and other attached to the Quantum and you are good to go.

Canon or Nikon, does not matter. As long as you are talking about the Pocket Wizards Plus IIs and not the Flex systems which are camera specific.

Now, the only thing is, the Plus IIs are not TTL capable, you would be setting the Quantum in Manual Mode.

I have the exact same set up, several Plus IIs, the Quantum T5D-R flash which I use on both Canon and Nikon. Just no TTL, but since you are in a static situation as you outlined, no problem. Actually it's better in manual, perfectly consistent output.

Another plus, they are both Transmitter/Receiver, no separate units to purchase, you just need to get 2, one on camera to transmit, other attached to Quantum to receive. Simple. Very reliable.

Hi Neill, I have both of your books and LOVE them. I have a question though, I have a shoot coming up where I will be photographing a bunch of downs syndrome kids with their families to be displayed at a charity event. They girl who is flying me out for the photo shoot wants me to set up a studio in her living room. She is going to purchase a white backdrop and a lighting set up for mr to use and wants me to tell her what to get. The thing is, she wants the system to be usable (as much as possible) by her husband after the shoot for his dental practice. The thing is, he has a Nikon & I shoot with a Canon, so I can't just have her get another speed light for me to use because it won't work for his Nikon and I only own 1 flash (430 ex). I noticed that b&h sells a Quantum digital flash kit that doesn't seem to be specific to Nikon or Canon: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/704684-REG/Quantum_Instruments_Digital_Flash_Kit.html
Would this work if I used pocket wizards? It seems that only the pocket wizard transmitter would have to be specific to my camera. Is that right? Or would it work to have them purchase a Nikon speedlight that I triggered from my Canon 7D using pocket wizards? Can you make other suggestions as to how I could handle this? Thanks!!!

Thanks Neil -
I didn't have much fall off until the weather got too cold and nasty to shoot outside. Now that I'm shooting indoors, usually hotel lobbies and the like I'll have to sort out my strategy. How do you handle lighting, say, at a wedding reception in a hotel. Not the formal shots where you can set up umbrellas on a light stand. I know you like to bounce your speed lights but that obviously has its limitations. If you have an assistant available to do off camera flash do you sometimes use an umbrella set up?

<blockquote>Brad, if your light source is too contained (ie, there is light fall off), then it isn't your choice of flash, but rather that you're using a softbox. Go to a large umbrella and you'll see a completely different spread of light.

Neil
I have been using the TD5-Rs for a while now. Typically I use one off camera for on location photo shoots in a softbox held by my assistant. When the model is wearing a dress and I do full body shots the fall off is very noticeable. To prevent this I have several options. I do have an additional TD5-R and softbox which I could use with a light stand. Not ideal because of lack of portability. Is there another one light set up that you use that will have less fall off? A profoto set up perhaps?
Thanks

<blockquote>Here is the cable to connect the Q-flash (and the household connector) to the PocketWizard Plus II (mini-jack).

<blockquote>Angelo ... in one of the links at the top, there is an article about <a href="http://neilvn.com/tangents/2008/04/24/travelling-light-in-vegas/">using the Q-flash as my lighting for a destination wedding in Las Vegas</a>. There's a photo of the FW9T attached to a Canon 1 series camera.

Hi Trev

Again, thanks for the info.
I think I follow what you mean with the FW9T, however with a Canon 1d body, things become very very large.
Do you have any pixs showing the FW9T configured to a camera body.
This would ideally give me the " I get it now " answer.

Regards
