Product Description

Product Description

Matching the high quality construction of the FUJIFILM X100S / X100 camera, the TCL-X100 Tele Conversions lens blends perfectly to provide enhanced photographic options by converting the lens from 35mm to 50mm (135 equivalent). FUJIFILM X100S - must be updated to version 1.20 or later.

The perfect complement to the X100

The perfect complement to the X100
When it comes to image quality, the Fujifilm X100T 16 MP Digital Camera (Black) is the finest camera I've ever owned. However, its fixed 35mm focal length isn't ideal for everything. As my interest in photographing people has grown (encouraged by the X100T's stunning skin tone rendition), I found myself wishing for a more focused length. Enter the TCL-X100B conversion lens: thread it on, switch on the relevant lens setting (Menu > Shooting Menu 3 > Conversion Lens > Tele), and voila! You now have a world-class 50mm walk-around camera. I initially thought I would switch between 50 and 35mm more, but the conversion lens has stayed on the camera 90% of the time since I got it. If I want to shoot a landscape or wider scene, I simply unthread the conversion lens, switch off the lens setting (I recommend programming this to one of the function buttons), and shoot. Best of all, there are no performance penalties to pay: no optical degradation, no autofocus issues, no vignetting. Its function is totally transparent, which really can't be said for a normal lens. However, since it's essentially a very high-quality magnifying glass, it adds significant bulk and weight to the camera. This is by far its biggest drawback, but for the pictures it gives me, it's a sacrifice I'm happy to make.

There was insufficient information on various websites to explain how this mounted to the FujiFilm X100T - which is a fixed-lens camera. On youtube, the videos demonstrated that there was a ring on the edge of the camera-mounted lens that can be unscrewed rather easily - the finished product was so refined I didn't realize that there was a ring there, to begin with. This lens then threads onto the edge of the existing lens, very securely I may add. Once attached properly I don't see a risk of it coming loose and falling off.

What this means is that you need to use the screen of the camera as the viewfinder - which was not an issue - since the optical viewfinder was specific to the permanently-mounted lens. This conversion lens uses a 67mm filter which threads onto the front of it as expected.

The finish is beautiful - the same sleek silver as the camera. And the quality is as expected from this product. There is a newer version of this product but I chose this one owing to the price difference.

The lens does add some weight to the camera, but nothing unmanageable given that the combined size and weight are much less than my Canon 5D Mark II with the 50 f/1.4 attached.

I'll update this review as I use the lens a bit more - but so far the performance has been as expected. No drawbacks noted as yet.

What's not to like? It's a solidly built lens with no moving parts. The optics here are excellent--I cannot detect any significant loss of sharpness compared to the fixed 23mm lens used alone. When you set the camera menu for using the conversion lens, it corrects the JPEGs in camera and embeds a profile that corrects for distortion and vignetting when developing the Raw files. Since my most used (and most useful) focal lengths are 50mm and 35mm, having the conversion lens is a real blessing. The downsides are the size of the conversion lens when attached and having to fiddle with attaching and detaching it. Some of the simplicity of using the X100 series cameras has to be given up to increase versatility. Despite these limitations, I very much enjoy using this lens.

The fixed lens on the X100S is great. The 23mm f/2.0 (35mm due to crop factor) works very well for everyday snaps, but as someone who mainly takes portraits, the TCL-X100S is the perfect addition to an already amazing camera setup.

I typically shoot lifestyle and fashion and the two lenses I use on my SLR/dSLR during those sessions are a 35mm and a 50mm. Now that I have this teleconverter, I am ALMOST tempted to ditch my dSLR setup and bring my X100S to every working shoot.

The build quality is great and the finish matches perfectly with the silver body X100S. There is some weight to the lens, but I suppose that is expected. Because it's made by Fuji, it's dedicated to the camera's quality. I haven't seen any weird fringing, lost a stop of light, or any autofocus issues.

The price is up there, but considering how well it works for me and how often I've already used it, I'm definitely getting my money's worth.

I bought the original version of the TCL-X100 as an addition the X100F. While I was excited to add it to the camera, I found it collecting dust after a while. It's definitely useful in certain situations, you just have to find those situations.
If you have a filter on the X100, putting the TCL on can be a chore, especially the earlier version where you have to go in the settings and adjust for the attachment (not a huge deal since Fujifilm added the quick menus).
Additionally, the X100F has a very capable digital zoom. And while it really just digitally crops the image in camera, the TCL loses a little usefulness on the fly. There are some that'll argue that you can now shoot at a 100mm equivalent when you combine the digital converter with the TCL, but I find that is an extremely rare situation for the style of shooting this camera is for.
The X100 was designed as a street photography camera and adding the TCL to it makes it a little more heft and bulk while adding no to image quality, which in some cases undoes the great compactness of the camera. In well-lit situations it can add a touch of shallow field and bokeh, but only at close distances, and again its very negligible.
Long story short, I'd certainly buy this again because I feel like, for my shooting anyway, it makes the X100F feel a little more complete. But don't expect it enhance your experience with the camera by all that much. My advice: be on the lookout for used versions at lower prices, especially if you have the X100F.

Extremely well made, with high quality optics, Fuji should be proud!

I see no visible loss of resolution when using this compared to the fixed on-camera lens, an excellent addition to your kit bag for the cherished X100/S/T. Now you have a 50mm lens!

Item arrived very well packaged with cloth bag and 2 lens caps. Highly recommended
