Like most everyone, I had used tape to attach gels and other stuff to my flash. Until I found the strap and a Honl gel kit. This strap is a simple but well executed idea. It's basically a Velcro strip with a rubber backing. The rubber backing grips your flash securely while the reverse side has Velcro. The gel kit consists of assorted precut gels with strips of Velcro glued to the edges. These in turn attach to the Velcro on the flash. This way, putting the gels on and taking them off is very quick and simple, much more convenient than using tape. I thinks it's a worthwhile investment. Check out the link below to find the gel kit.

A $10 piece of Velcro? Yup, that is basically what this is. However, I have bought 2 (one for each flash I own) because it is very well constructed, works with both my 430EX II and 580 EX II flashes, and supports all of the other Honl items that I own (grids, snoot). I tried the do-it-yourself version, but mine would tend to slip and not hold the items as well as this one. The rubber back on the strap holds very securely to the flash head, and that is important when you are hanging "heavy" things like grids off of it. All in all, a good item that does its job well. Would rate it a 5 star if it were less expensive.

I love the HonlPhoto system of light modifiers, and this is the base of that. The speed strap really lives up to its name...once it's attached to a flash, you can quickly and easily switch between snoots, grigs, gobos, and gels...in a flash (pun intended).

While some think this is expensive, I will continue buying this and the rest of the HonlPhoto line, as it's all made very well, looks professional, and helps me work faster.

Bought this to hold the Honl Color Correction Filter's on our 580EX II. Simple Velcro Application - may have been able to buy Velcro strip from the store and make it work, however, the non-slip rubbery bottom of the Honl strap does keep it in place on the speedlight, probably better than a plain strip of velcro would've. For how little it costs, it wasn't worth it for me to go that way...will buy another for our second speedlight.

If you want to try all all of the nice Honl accessories - colored gels, light modifiers - then you need this. Yes, you could make your velcro version of this, but their interior finish doesn't mar the flashes at all, and for the price it isn't worth it. There is nothing that sticks to your flash. It simply wraps around the flash head and attaches to itself. It can slide off and be stored that way if you like. This would also be useful if needed to put your flashes in waterproof bags for rain.
