The lightweight construction and compact-size of these stands make them a practical tool for your lighting support needs. With a patented Quick Stack System (QSS) you can easily stack the stands together with their built in connectors for portable transport and storage. The adapto collars and spider casting Material is crucial to provide high performance and light weight. Adapto is the new material specifically developed by Manfrotto for both collars and spider castings is comparable to aluminum in strength, but is 50% lighter and has a superb resistance to extreme temperatures and will not corrode or oxidize. Additionally, Adapto is an excellent vibration absorption material. the new Adapto collars are made from a single locking component, ensuring better performance and easier maintenance. A stronger and more ergonomic handle makes it easier to secure stands into the operating position. A 3/8’’ screw top female to 1/4” adapter male (015), allows you to connect additional accessories. A new bi-injection casting provides the photographer with a better ergonomic grip.     I bought this in conjunction with other items to be a wireless speedlite (flash) for when I do shoots either indoors or outdoors.

    Pros: Nice and lightweight.
    Air cushion is nice so your flash doesn't come crashing down.
    Folds flat and can be snapped together with other ones for easy storage.
    Super quick and easy to erect.
    Build quality is top notch.

    Cons: Since it is so light, I recommend getting a weight bag or something to hold this down. Especially if shooting outdoors a breeze with take the umbrella and whole unit down in a pinch. Don't want it to tip!!!

    Overall, I would buy another one of these to replace my other (more flimsy) stand. Good stuff Manfrotto!

    The 1052BAC easily supports a 600-LED video light or 7-light CFL head with medium or large softbox. Although lightweight, the outrigger-like folding base (42") lends excellent stability. However, sandbags are a good idea with heavier light heads and to prevent being kicked over by talent and wayward clients.

    The "air cushioned" tubes move silky smooth and locks hold securely without excess torque. When fully extended, the 1052BAC is surprisingly tall and can touch an eight-foot ceiling with a small flash mounted. The folded length is 35 inches, so larger than than my definition of "compact." The Manfrotto 5001B Nano Stand is more deserving of that label. You'll want a light stand bag for transport, especially if humping two or three of these. Nevertheless the 1052BAC is lightweight and quickly folds flat for transport.

    The only gotcha is the brass 5/8” spigot is not removable and crimped into the tube. It would cost a little more to build but be more flexible with a 5/8” receiver and component spigot/baby pin.

    I've owned Manfrotto tripods, heads and monopods and was pleased with their quality and design. Indeed, the 1052BAC delivered more of the same: versatile, lightweight and well made.

    This is a great stand. I have a lastolite 24" hotshoe softbox and this is a perfect match for it. It has a much wider stance than its little brother the manfrotto 1052 mini stand yet it remains similar in weight which is quite light. It appears to be very well made and is quite attractive. It folds flat making it easy to transport. It has air cushion support and I really like the quality touches such as the red anodized tightening knob. If you are in the market for a stand of this size, you will absolutely not regret purchasing this stand. it is that nice.

    AS USUAL !!! I did a TON of research to find these puppy's.....
    I got these to hold my Alien Bee 800 units(2)and Paul C. Buff P.L.M(2)51" with front diffusers attached which isn't super heavy nor super light.My previous light stands felt flimsy with that set up and were admittedly cheap !
    I know ANY loaded light stand CAN AND WILL topple over when it is THE most in-opportune time.I just wanted something with a bit more load capacity and stability.
    SO...... without spending a small fortune I found these.
    As far as I know (which isn't very far!HA!) light stands have not changed in design in decades, just what they are made of and addition of the air cushion(which these are)Etc..BUT these are different !
    The lower support beams are attached off axis to the main support which allows them to fold flat as opposed to circular(like an inverted umbrella).This in turn with a nifty docking are allow these stands to attach together which if you have 2 or more of these is a really nice feature for transport !I have not seen this feature before but I like it all ready !
    The footprint of the legs ARE larger and a bit closer to the ground(compared with my cheapies)which lends a bit more to the stability(and of course tripping hazard)of the stands.A weight bag of course further solidifies them.
    These are made of a new materiel patented by Manfrotto which is another cool thing about these making them extremely strong yet lighter than comparably stands at this weight capacity.They are almost TOOOO light though !
    Side note:They look pretty slick as well!
    Why no 5 star you ask? Well, I guess it comes down to my only gripe so far. They DO still bend when extended and loaded with the aforementioned set up.Did't particularly like that all things considered. I would LOVE it if they had a studio(more heavy)version AND a location(less heavy)version,but I digress and that is just my stupid opinion.
    BOTTOM LINE: For light and medium(up to 15lbs or so)set ups.ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
    Heavier set ups...Get different stands ! You all ready knew that though didn't you?

    Hands down the best stands I've ever used. A lot of people will go cheap with their stands, which I understand and have done in the past. But when you're moving on from speed lights to monolights. The weight and the cost of a monolight was far too great to trust to a cheap stand, so I went with the great brand of Manfrotto. I've used their tripod(s) for years. Still have the first one and then bought a second, smaller one just for traveling. These are fantastic stands and can support the weight of quality lights. The air-cushioning is some of the best I've seen and I love that they fold down flat and end up locking together. Great stuff that I take around the country with me.

    I've had mine for less than a year (since December 2016) and one of the knobs just stripped and can't tighten it anymore. Leading up to that, I had no choice but to over-tighten it because the grip got weak and the stand was sliding down. I LOVE the weight and design of these stands, BUT this issue makes mine completely unusable and I would NOT recommend these models now. I have another stand (same model) and the knob feels gritty when tightening and I'm afraid it's on its way to the same demise, unfortunately. :(
    Hopefully I can get a couple of replacements. We'll see.
