Product Description
Product Description
The SB-910 is Nikon’s most sophisticated and powerful Creative Lighting System portable Speedlight designed for use on camera as well as for complete wireless control in the studio or on location.
From the Manufacturer
Engineered for both FX and DX-format D-SLRs, the SB-910 offers unparalleled lighting performance in the field and in the studio. Featuring Nikon’s versatile i-TTL (intelligent through-the-lens) metering for on camera or wireless flash control, the SB-910 can operate as a hot shoe mounted Speedlight, remote unit or wireless Commander. And with refined operability including illuminated buttons for use in low light and improved thermal cut out protection, the SB-910 is the perfect partner to your Nikon camera.
Unparalleled lighting performance
Seamless integration with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System
The SB-910 Speedlight operates as a hot shoe mounted Speedlight, remote unit or wireless Commander (with up to four channel options) capable of controlling as many as three remote groups (A,B and C) and an unlimited number of SB-910, SB-900, SB-700 or SB-R200 units. With a host of pro flash features, including precision i-TTL flash control, Manual with Power Ratio, three illumination patterns for specific shooting environments, wide zoom range from 17–200mm and streamlined controls and menus, it’s no wonder that Nikon is the overwhelming choice when it comes to flash photography.
On the road or in the studio, the perfect partner
Real world simplicity with advanced automation
At the heart of the SB-910 is Nikon’s i-TTL flash control which enables Nikon Speedlights to share critical exposure information with CLS compatible D-SLRs. All of the complex lighting calculations are computed for you instantly with consistently accurate results in just about any lighting situation. Using the SB-910 as a Commander or in concert with the SU-800 Commander or D-SLR with built-in Commander operating as the Master controller you can wirelessly manage and fire up to three groups of remotely positioned SB-910, SB-900, SB-700 and SB-R200 Speedlights. Additionally, each group can contain any number of Speedlights and any mix of these Speedlights. SB-910 can also be set as a Remote Speedlight for complete system integration and control.
Improved control and convenience
Versatile flash for enthusiasts and professionals
SB-910 offers an improved interface adding a dedicated Menu button and illuminated buttons for control in low light. Additionally, hard type color correction filters are now used, providing durability and convenience when used with a camera set for Auto white balance. And when taking pictures in certain situations such as in rapid sequence, to prevent the flash tube from overheating an improved thermal cut out protection has been adopted that slows recycling instead of cutting off the flash.

The Nikon 4809 SB – 910 speed light is simply the best one on the market. I am impressed with its ability to keep up with eight frames per second, and also I have been using rechargeable Energizer batteries and I didn't have to replace them the whole day of shooting. If you have the ability to buy one, then I would go for it. It is on surpassed in accuracy and simple way of navigating through all its menus. It can also be used as a remote flash, with the right tools. I have been using the Nikon 4809 SB – 910 for over a month now, and I would never use another type of flash again. Nikon keeps coming out with remarkable tools for our cameras and forgetting the best shot ever. During my evening setting I took well over 3000 photos and the Nikon 4809 SB – 910 kept up to everything that I put it through and it was a very successful shoot.
I wanted to follow up now 8+ years later. In the 8+ years since purchasing this flash as well as most of my Nikon equipment I have been NEVER disappointed in ALL my Nikon choices. Superior, superb, EXTREMELY EXTRAORDINARY and I could go on for days. Shooting over 4 million and YES, I said 4 million photos with 6 different bodies and 5 lenses. I have 4 of these flash units and NEVER EVER had a failure. The fact NIKON has shut down its warrantee and repair departments, I am only disappointed in their choice to do so. Getting a repair is near impossible but that's just it, I've needed not one repair on all I own. I tried to do a bit of a financial tally and the best I came up with is approximately $200 in all I own. I shoot mostly environmental shots, wildlife and all my travels. To date 110 countries, over 4,000 cities and countless towns throughout the world. This has by far been my very best journey in my life these last 8 years, but only equally compared to the hundreds of thousands of those who are in my shots. The beautiful people who gladly agreed to be included in all my photo shoots. Their amazing extraordinary personalities now forever captured. I would never ever been able to embark on this journey had it not been NIKON at my side.
I thank you all for reading and sharing this review. Amazon and B&H PHOTO has ONLY been my purchase options of my Nikon equipment. By far superior in customer service support and awesome prices. Exclusively used for excellence and extremely extraordinary care and 110% gaurenteed delivered choices.
Again thank you all and I'm here for any answer you request.
Cheers...
The flash is a bit heavy and I worry about the foot breaking for those who like to turn camera and flash sideways for vertically framed shots. I have a stroboframe bracket that flips the camera to vertical, leaving the flash sitting peacefully atop my rig. I don't think I would use this flash with a cheap bracket that flips the flash about for vertical framed pictures.
Finally, you can get really beautiful lighting bouncing this flash of ceilings and walls. However, to rotate the head, you have to push pretty hard on a release button which is a bit of a pain. I understand why they included this feature, but truthfully, I could do without it.
Bottom line, I have to say it's an awesome flash. I went with the more powerful model because my lenses are slow, I like to bounce the flash a lot, and I take a lot of telephoto flash pictures. It has some bells and whistles I'll never use, but the features I take advantage of work very well.
The owners manual is pretty thick, but you should read it all and experiment with all modes and functions.
I like that you can go rapid fire and pop a shot every second and the flash is always ready. Granted, I didn't have it on its highest setting, but still, the flash never slowed me down.
The flash does wiggle ever so slightly on the D700 mounting bracket so I bought NIkon's WG-AS3 weather guard. That piece water-proofs the connection and adds a great deal of stability.
I'm using the Sanyo eneloop XX 2500mAh rechargeable batteries. They last forever in this light.
The auto-focus assist is a welcome feature. Sometimes I turn that on with no flash just to take flash-free photos but to get better auto-focus.
So far I'm quite pleased with this purchase and am eager to learn more about the art of flash photography.
As I mature in my photography I'd love to use this as the 'master' for a multi-flash set up, and get into the more technical manual settings it allows.

However, the Warranty slip did have "Nikon Canada" pre-printed on the slip. That leads me to believe it is a bonafide product, supported by Nikon Canada.
Pricing was much better than B&H, after exchange, freight & clearance.
The flash itself is amazing, easy menu system. Have not had the opportunity to do a stress test and verify temperature shut-off nuisance typical of the earlier SB-900.
AR
