Product Description


The Nikon SD-9 Battery Pack is designed for use with the SB-900 to shorten flash recycling time and increase flash capacity. It accepts 4 or 8 1.5V LR6 (AA size alkaline), 1.2V KR-AA (AA size NiCd), 1.5V FR6 (AA size lithium) or 1.2 AA size Ni-MH batteries.

    This battery pack is not for everyone. It's pricy, a bit bulky and only works with the SB-900 speedlight. However, if you make your living taking pictures, this is worth every cent. I am amazed with the improved recycle time. I can snap away much faster with my speedlight. Photos that were lost before are now captured. The pack is very well made. I use the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries because they hold the charge longer.

    I just recently purchased a Nikon SD-9 Battery Pack to use in conjuction with my Nikon SB-900 strobe. this is a great addition to the strobe unite. It allows me longer shoting time without haveing to change battery's. I also purchased the Nikon MS-SD9 battery holder a week later so that I could load even more battery's ahead of time. Then when the first battery's went dead I could slide out the first holder. and insert the second in 10 seconds. This is a very worth while piece of equiptment for any pro photographer. I would highly recommend this for any one that does high volume shooting.

    Wonderful idea for added shots + economical. Too Pricey
    A few years ago I was using a xxxxxx pack ( i will keep the vendor private) it was a great pack, but over time the charge would not hold and i found myself with an un-reliable costly solution.
    The SD-9 offers you the ability to add your own set of 8 AA batteries - alkaline or rechargeable, So as battery technology improves or your batteries goes bad you dont have to replace the entire system.

    I use mine with a SB-910, and notice a slight better recycle time and at least double the number of shots before I need to replace or recharge.

    Too bad nikon did not think of offering a "battery magizine" system to allow me faster replacements. Or at least a second battery box. With this set up, when the batteries are discharged you need to remove the pack, then remove each cell and replace them -boo hoo, time consuming.

    Much better if NIKON had offered 2 slide in magazines and a charger for it

    Nikon calls it "high Performance" guess what - You add your own batteries. Performance depends on you, not Nikon.

    Lots of money for a plastic battery box :(

    If you shoot TTL flash a lot, you know how it can eat your batteries, even the Sanyo NEW 1500 eneloop 8 Pack AA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to agree that having 12 batteries recharging your 900 will be a lot faster and longer lasting than just the 4 in the unit.

    You still need to load the 900 with four of them to complete the circuit, so you'll need 20 batteries for a refresh, along with the Nikon MS-SD9 Replacement Battery Holder for the SD-900 Battery Pack to make that exchange quick and easy, so it's a significant investment, but from experience I can tell you this is a worthwhile one.

    Using a more powerful Quantum pack or something similar can fry your 900, especially if you've already figured out how to turn off the thermal shut-off. When the little guy starts beeping at you, beware: you're pushing it a little too hard. This won't happen as quickly with the SD-9. Sure, you can still fry it if you ignore the warnings, but if you run into that much need for more flashes and need a workhorse of a light, check out the Quantum QF8N QFlash Trio for Nikon Cameras. Virtually the same output as the SB-900, you can shoot it all dang day and night, and if you need to replace a bulb, that's all you'll have to do. 10% of the cost of a new 900...

    If you shoot Manual flash, the SD-9 can make your flash last much longer, provided you're working within reasonable limits. Full-power pops all day will drain any battery system, but you'll shoot much longer with much shorter recharge times with it.

    Highly recommended, especially if you want to stay with the Nikon CLS. Good shooting.

    Incredible addition to the SB-900 flash. I'm not sure if the advertised "1 second" recycle time is in reference to full power blasts, but I can often fire away much more rapidly, typically getting between 9-12 exposures in a continuous shutter release. The only downside is that if you are not careful, it leaves your 900 more prone to the overheat shutoff, which will take it offline for a few minutes.

    I've now shot my last two weddings using it and the SD-9 was a huge boost in my ability to capture shots that I might've been missed before due to a recycle (shots missed due to photographer error is another matter. ;-) The attached cord/belt combination doesn't get in the way nearly as much as I thought it might, though it may be a small nuisance to some.

    The ability to mount the pack to the base of the camera (tripod screw) is a nice touch but one I doubt I will use much - makes it a bit awkward to grip.

    I use with Powerex AA NiMH. Highly recommended!

Along with the batteries I install in my SB-900/910 flash units, adding this battery pack makes it possible to have a VERY long shooting day without having to change batteries.     I'm a professional photographer so this item is essential when shooting continually on flash throughout the day. Re-charge time is very fast and allows for continual shooting of between 2 or 3 seconds. If you are not involved in this type of work then I would think one set high power re-chargables is enough to see you through most photo assignments without spending the money on this product. Definitely a good piece of pro kit. Don't spend money on cheap imitations , which are on the market for about £50, they can overheat and damage your camera.

    Ich habe mir für beim Sport in der Halle oder Einzelportait von ganzen Mannschaften dieses SD-9 bei Amazon bestellt. Leider konnte keinen Kontakt zwischen SD-9 und SB-900 hergestellt werden. Die Batterien sassen ordnungsgemäss, das Gehäuse klicktee ein und der Kabel klickte am Blitz, aber alles blieb tot. Die Batterien funktionnierten im Blitz ganz toll. Habe den SD-9 zurückgeschickt. Das erste Mal, dass Nikon mich enttäuschte.
