I also have a pair of B1s, but there are many occasions where I find the B2 to be the better choice. For impromptu shoots on location with no assistant, the B2 head is less top-heavy on a lightstand and I can get away with no sandbag. If I recruit an assistant, the lighter weight is less awkward and hence less likely to be dropped. And less expensive to replace if it is dropped! (I put the battery pack in a fanny pack for my assistant to carry around if we're roaming). I've also put the B2 head on a bracket and used it like a speedlight, or hand-held it and shot one-handed like a '40s photographer. The light quality is excellent; even a bare head provides a nicer light than a speedlight (though I'd be pressed to define just how). The build and quality is outstanding, and my particular B2 has been more reliable that my B1s, one of which has failed 3 times in a year. Though you can certainly put it in any Profoto light shaper, the Beauty Dish and the 1x3 softbox complement it nicely.
I bought a floor demo unit, but received an incomplete unit. The base Handle for the flash head is missing... I have to attach it to the bear female screw.
I purchased this overpriced lighting system for a shoot I had booked. I had to cancel my booking because it showed up dead! The battery won't take a charge and the system wouldn't even turn on. When someone overpays for a light they expect to get a system that woks.
I've always used speedlights for my photography but occasionally run into problem where I needed more power from my flash. A mobile solution that I've always wanted to look at is the new Profoto B2 flash heads. The 250 Watts per second is more than enough power output & is well suited for most lighting requirements. Recycle time is very quick & the menu is very intuitive. I can safely say that you can even use this unit right out of the box. What I'd like to improve on is the case design. Not very easy to remove when swapping the battery. Also, would have been nice if you can actually see the power level of the flash (just like the speedlight) on the air TTL remote. This product is recommended.
I absolutely love my B2. The price is steep, very steep.... but it's exactly what I needed. It's lightweight, easy to handle, gives off amazing light. It's 250 WS of power is just one stop below the B1 500WS and a whole lot lighter!
Recycle times are fast.... this and the air remote.... I've never had a misfire. I can't say that about my pocket wizards....
Works great. I use in studio and outdoors with my Sony a7riii. Also used with my Sony a6400 in studio. Fast recycle times and very easy to move around as needed.
