Product Description

A Versatile Light Modifier
With a 28" square construction, we designed the Medium Apollo with versatility in mind. This light modifier is large enough to act as a key light source for headshots or product images, yet small enough to act as an accent light, giving you a range of lighting options.

For Speedlites and Strobes
Do you shoot with both types of off-camera flash? Thanks to the Apollo and Halo’s versatile umbrella shaft, these modifiers can be instantly paired with both speedlites and strobes. With these softboxes, you won’t be confined to using a single lighting style or forced into buying various modifiers.

Direct and Soften Light
By directing your light source toward the Apollo’s included diffusion front, you’ll create drastic highlights with a subtle hot spot. By directing your unit towards the back of Apollo, you’ll create an even spread of light with softer shadows. You can even pick up an optional 40-degree Egg Crate Grid for more light control options.

Instant Setup
With flexible framework and convenient umbrella-style design, these modifiers open and collapse quickly for effortless setup and storage.

Say Goodbye to Speedrings and Rods
Unlike most softboxes, these modifiers are constructed with an umbrella-style frame. Not only does this allow for the instant assembly, but it also allows for quick strobe mounting without bulky speedrings or adapters.

Premium Diffusion Fabric
Our diffusion panels are constructed with a premium, all-natural unbleached nylon fabric. Unlike processed diffusion fabrics, these diffusers will soften your light source without altering its color temperature.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2011Initial Impressions:
Just got this recently and the first impression is that it is in fact, decently built. It has an umbrella frame with each corner having a pair of 'rods', so it feels sturdy. The zippers and stitching feel solid, but only time will tell, as mine has only been used a few times thus far.
Other reviewers stated it's cheap, but you do get what you pay for. Coming in around a hundred bucks, this would be considered a mid-grade soft-box for the size, so I aware of this going in. It doesn't feel cheap, but I know it's not the premium model, at a premium price.I found it to be of good value.
Overall:
It works great, feels sturdy, sets up quickly, and most of all, the quality of light it produces is spectacular. After the results of the very first test shots, I'm 100% happy purchasing this.
Regarding Tilting:
You'll definitely need other modifiers in addition to a simple light stand if you need the freedom for full tilt, otherwise, expect a standard range be around +/- 20 degrees, depending on how you choke it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2012I just got back from my first shoot with the Apollo 28" soft box and i must say I am very impressed with its performance outside, this thing provides BEAUTIFUL soft light! I love it over all my umbrellas. I also own the ORB and this box is built much better. It has double ribs and thicker steel rods than the ORB. I built a DIY bracket and now can fire my dual 580 EXII's with Pocket Wizards for a killer wireless soft box capable of HSS. I will probably keep the ORB for in-studio work and use the 28" apollo for my on-location stuff. Feathering the light is very easy because of the recessed design and setup is a snap. A lot of folks cry about not being able to tilt the unit much, to me it's only a minor flaw, I prefer to have the stand feed trough the front as it allows better tilt and super quick removal to shoot in bare flash mode and if I need to tilt more I can simply buy an L bracket. This definitely gets my recommendation for you to try, I will be bringing this softbox with me on every future shoot.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2011I bought the Westcott Apollo 28" for my Nikon SB800 Manfrotto on location kit, I already own a small Photoflex box which I found very difficult to open and close, and a bit to small, so this product seemed great - I love the umbrella style and the size is perfect, the recessed front gives great light control. I live in The Philippines, so all in all the box became quite costly considering shipping and local duties, however I was impressed by the style and was willing to spend to get a great flexible location set up... shipping from Adorama was fantastic - 3 days from order to home.
Unboxing the unit was my first disappointment - no cover - if you buy a $5 normal umbrella to guard against the rain, it comes with a cover, and considering this one is $120... that soon became the smallest issue.. I used the Westcott 28" only once, during the shoot the Manfrotto light stand tipped over and the box landed in the soft grass, the umbrella structure collapsed and broke, I was totally amazed that the product was made of such substandard materials that one single small fall would break it - I don't understand why a company would use materials, I know manufacturing, and an umbrella like this could not cost more than $20 to make - an added $5 in cost would have secures Westcott a great reputation and more customers to come..unfortunately, my recommendation is DON'T BUY until the manufacturer has fixed the engineering.
Kind regards
Lars
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2014I'm a working pro. I photograph 50+ weddings a year. I have the newer version of this with the fiberglass rods. This does not hold up to a real working photographer's usage. The 4 corner outside points are made of cheap thin metal that actually tear!. The fiberglass rods tear through them like paper after a few uses. The softbox opens like an umbrella, but if you accidentally open it too far, it gets stuck, and you can't close it. Totally over priced. Total garbage. Westcott you should be ashamed of yourself for selling this. The "rockstar" photographers who recommend this on their you tube channels are clearly too busy marketing themselves and their teaching workshops to realize this isn't worth 5 dollars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolle Softbox
Absolut empfehlenswert .
