It is easily accessible from New York as well, and we can fetch you from the local bus terminal. There is also free parking at the studio.\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/studio-directions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Directions to the studio<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The intention with\u00a0this workshop is to help other photographers understand the essentials of studio lighting,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>how<\/strong>\u00a0to achieve what\u00a0<strong>they\u00a0<\/strong>want to. After this workshop, I want you to feel comfortable next time you step into a studio, knowing you have a solid place to start from, and have the confidence to experiment further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you prefer, there is also the option of an <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/photography-workshops\/\">personal workshop<\/a>, with just yourself and two models.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Workshop syllabus<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The day&#8217;s program is built around these points:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Using a light meter<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Posing!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Working with a single light, and building up to multiple lights.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hard light sources and softer lighting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Basic lighting patterns &#8211; butterfly \/ loop \/ Rembrandt lighting. Split lighting. Clamshell\u00a0lighting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Using a beauty dish, and how this compares to other light modifiers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gridded stripboxes vs larger softboxes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Reverse-engineering photographs to decipher the lighting used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Please note &#8211; this isn&#8217;t one of those &#8220;glamor photography workshops&#8221; where a photographer merely rotates between different lighting setups \/ stations. This workshop is intended to be a learning experience for you in becoming confident in using a studio and studio lighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Workshop fees and details<\/h2>\n<p><strong>$1,600<\/strong> for the day, including working with two models.<br \/>\nIf you\u2019d like to double up with a friend, then the fee is $900 each.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong>\u00a0 9am to 6pm<\/p>\n<p>The day will start at 9am at my studio in <strong>Fairfield, NJ<\/strong>. This means that I\u00a0can&#8217;t book other work the same period. Hence, this fee is <strong>not<\/strong> refundable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What you need for the workshop<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Be prepared\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0you will get the most out of the workshop if you are familiar with your camera\u2019s basic operations. Make sure you know how to manually adjust your shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO. You need to be familiar already with concepts such as depth-of-field. Break out the manual and review these things before the workshop, if necessary!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Equipment\u00a0&#8211; you only need your camera, and a lens or two. The best lens options would be a\u00a0medium-range zoom (24-70mm), a telephoto lens (85mm or longer) or a 70-200mm zoom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The studio is well equipped with a wide range of lighting gear, so no need to bring anything else. Just your camera and a few lenses.
