There is a specific curriculum that I cover with you to make sure we go over the essential stuff &#8211; but with this personal workshop we will also discuss and work with whatever gaps you may have in your understanding of photography and lighting \/ flash photography. In that way, these workshops are individually shaped to your needs. At the end of the workshop, I am sure you will be more confident in your photography technique with flash photography.<\/p>\n<p>It will be just you and me, and a model, and an assistant. With the full-day workshop it will be two models &#8211; one will be with us earlier in the afternoon, and the other will join us later in the late afternoon. This way you get the additional benefit of working with different models.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will held at <a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my studio in Fairfield, NJ<\/a> and the surrounding areas for the on-location work.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/workshop\/NV2_2354-2295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Individual photography workshop \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0New Jersey \/ NJ<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Half-day workshop: $950<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>10am to 11am:<\/strong> During the first part of this workshop, we&#8217;ll briefly go over the theory and we&#8217;ll discuss the techniques and the stuff-we-need-to-know.<\/li>\n<li><strong>11am-3pm:<\/strong> A model will join us so that we can test what we have learned so far, and also practically go over some of the material.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;d like to team up with a friend, the fee would be $550 each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Full-day workshop: $1700<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>3pm-7pm:<\/strong> If you would like to extend the workshop for the full day, then a second model will join us (relieving the first model). Then we continue with the new model.<\/li>\n<li>With the full workshop, we will break for a short lunch around 2pm or 2:30pm, which is included in the cost of the workshop.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;d like to double up with a friend, then the fee is $850 each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There will be an assistant with us with the logistics, and to hold up a softbox for us as necessary.<\/p>\n<p>A non-refundable retainer of $1,000 is required to secure the date.<br \/>\nShould you cancel, $500 can be re-applied to another date.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/workshop\/Aleona_0469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"601\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The focus with these\u00a0workshops are\u00a0on using speedlites indoors and\u00a0on location. With this workshop, I want you to be much more confident in using your speedlight, with a full grasp of all the technical stuff you need to know. I want to show you that your speedlight and flash photography are not as formidable as you think.<\/p>\n<p>These workshops are full-day events &#8211; and are a mixture of seminar presentation and practical shooting. The workshops will be held at\u00a0<a style=\"color: #808080;\" href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">my studio in NJ<\/a>.\u00a0There is free parking, and it is easily reached from the main highways in the area. There is also regular bus transport from New York. (We can fetch you from the local bus terminal.)\u00a0Lunch and refreshments are included!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Photography workshop program<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>Discussion of\u00a0techniques \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The day will start with a slideshow presentation, covering the technical stuff we need to know. \u00a0I will answer all questions, and thoroughly cover a variety of topics, which will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TTL \/ Auto flash .. vs .. manual flash<\/li>\n<li>Exposure metering for ambient light<\/li>\n<li>Maximum\u00a0flash sync speed<\/li>\n<li>High-speed flash sync<\/li>\n<li>Adding fill-flash to available light outdoors<\/li>\n<li>Flash indoors<\/li>\n<li>Directional bounce flash<\/li>\n<li>Dragging the shutter<\/li>\n<li>Tungsten light &amp; flash<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with harsh sunlight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Practical Application <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Much of the workshop will be\u00a0with your camera in your hands\u00a0&#8211; with shooting indoors and outdoors, we get\u00a0to reinforce the information presented during the seminar portions.\u00a0 There will be 2 models available during the photo sessions, and each attendee will be given the opportunity to work with the models, together and individually.<\/p>\n<p>Several different lighting situations will be set up and each participant will get to practice the concepts we covered in the morning. For the on-location part of the workshop, we&#8217;ll find interesting backgrounds and set-ups, and use and practice what we had learnt. Radio triggers\u00a0will be available for each attendee to use for the off-camera lighting \/ studio setup.\u00a0 The practical exercises will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Metering for ambient light and fill flash<\/li>\n<li>Using TTL flash and manual flash<\/li>\n<li>Off-camera flash and a softbox (manual and TTL)<\/li>\n<li>Posing!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What you need for the workshop:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Be prepared:<br \/>\nYou will get the most out of the workshop if you are familiar with your camera\u2019s basic operations. Make sure you know how to manually adjust your shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Know where your in-camera metering display is, and how to read it. You need to be familiar already with concepts such as depth-of-field, as well as how\u00a0choice of shutter speed would have on the sharpness of the photo. Break out the manual and review these things before the workshop, if necessary!<\/li>\n<li>Equipment:<br \/>\nYour camera, a medium range zoom (hopefully f\/2.8 max aperture), but if you have them, also bring a 50mm and\/or an 85mm lens, your flash, whatever flash modifiers you normally use, and (of course) a CF card. If you have a battery pack for your flashgun, it would also help. Bring a 70-200mm lens as well if you have one.<\/li>\n<li>I will have the\u00a0softboxes and other lighting equipment and enough wireless triggers\u00a0for the group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Workshop cancellation policy:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Note that\u00a0<strong>no<\/strong> refunds will be issued for cancellations inside 30 days from the date of a workshop for\u00a0any\u00a0reason. However, you are welcome to sell or gift your spot to someone else.<\/li>\n<li>Also note that Paypal only allows a full refund within a 60 day window. Outside of that period Paypal fees are incurred, and I won&#8217;t be able to refund the full amount.<\/li>\n<li>No\u00a0refunds will be given for cancellations of workshops that have been announced as being fully booked. Once a workshop is announced as being fully booked, it stops others from bookings those spots. Therefore it would simply not be possible to refund your fees should you cancel a workshop which has been announced as being fully booked.
