One of the sequences I photographed of Anelisa<\/a> for the\u00a0video clip of a photo session in the studio<\/a>,\u00a0was to create this kind of sun-drenched flared image. I wanted it to look bright and airy and summery.<\/p>\n There was a studio flash behind her to (partially) create the flare. I had to keep adjusting my movement just so that the flash-head wouldn’t be entirely hidden, or entirely revealed.<\/p>\n There was a total of four flashes used, and the pull-back shot shows their positioning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There was one\u00a0Profoto D1 Air 500 Ws studio\u00a0light<\/a>\u00a0(affiliate<\/em>)\u00a0and the\u00a0Profoto beauty dish<\/a>\u00a0(affiliate<\/i>)\u00a0as the main light on Anelisa.<\/p>\n The beauty dish\u00a0and light were mounted\u00a0on a\u00a0Manfrotto 025BS boom w\/\u00a0008BU stand & casters<\/a>\u00a0(affiliate<\/em>)\u00a0which offers coaxial geared controls at the one end. So now it is \u00a0possible to adjust the positioning of the light such as the beauty dish in this case, without relying on\u00a0a tall model on high-heels to adjust your lights<\/a>\u00a0for you.<\/p>\n There was a bare\u00a0Profoto D1 Air 500 Ws Monolight<\/a>\u00a0(affiliate<\/em>) behind her. This flashhead had the\u00a0Profoto frosted glass dome<\/a>\u00a0(B&H<\/a> \/ Amazon<\/a><\/em>)\u00a0on it to help spread the light, since the D1 has a flat disc for the head, instead of the usual bulb-like flash-head that you’d expect.<\/p>\n Then I used two\u00a0Quantum flashes\u00a0– one to light the background, and the other (with a 12″ x 12″ softbox) to provide rim-light on Anelisa.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The flare from the flash-head wasn’t quite enough, so for both these main images, I used the Lens Flare filter in Photoshop.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Studio photography – Creating sun-flare images One of the sequences I photographed of Anelisa for the\u00a0video clip of a photo session in the studio,\u00a0was to create this kind of sun-drenched flared image.
