{"id":158,"date":"2008-10-20T03:25:05","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T08:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planetneil.com\/tangents\/?p=203"},"modified":"2018-01-03T18:46:38","modified_gmt":"2018-01-03T22:46:38","slug":"a-little-less-gray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/a-little-less-gray\/","title":{"rendered":"a little less gray .."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/Jen-David-1108-acr-900.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/Jen-David-1108-acr.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love color.\u00a0 I see in color.\u00a0 I really favor color over B&amp;W images.\u00a0 But strong B&amp;W images do have impact that is often lost with the distraction of color.<\/p>\n<p>Even though most of the photographs on my wedding photography blog are in color, there was a recent wedding which\u00a0I showed as a set of B&amp;W images instead.\u00a0\u00a0 What happened was\u00a0that when\u00a0I started editing the images from that wedding\u00a0for the blog, first one image, and then another, looked really good as a warm-toned B&amp;W \u2026 and then I decided to go all the way and create a blog entry that consisted only of B&amp;W images.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/Jen-David-0669-acr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve had\u00a0a number of queries about how I process my black and white images with that warm tint.\u00a0\u00a0It is usually very simply done in Bridge, using a preset I created in ACR.\u00a0 This way I can select multiple images and then select this specific preset.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-1-900.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"508\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the\u00a0Basic tab, adjustments are centered around removing the colour by zeroing the\u00a0Saturation slider. The Contrast is bumped up a fair amount, and Brightness nudged up a little.<\/p>\n<p>The Calibration tab is adjusted according to suggestions made by Bruce Fraser in his book, Real World Camera RAW.\u00a0 The way that the various colors are interpreted as B&amp;W tones, can also be affected by WB adjustments in the Basic Tab.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"368\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/b&amp;w\/B&amp;W-acr-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The warm tone comes from adjustments in the Split Toning tab.
