{"id":2797,"date":"2010-03-30T06:26:24","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T10:26:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/?p=2797"},"modified":"2017-08-22T23:41:57","modified_gmt":"2017-08-23T03:41:57","slug":"favourite-image-from-the-weekend-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/favourite-image-from-the-weekend-4\/","title":{"rendered":"favorite image from the weekend &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/various\/NV1_8961-900.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"599\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>using additional off-camera lighting at events<\/h1>\n<p>With the Bar Mitzvah boy lifted on the shoulders of his friends at his party, I ducked and weaved to make sure that I kept one of the additional flashes behind him as the group moved. \u00a0I purposely shot faster than my flash could recycle, so that I could get images with my on-camera flash, and without. \u00a0It&#8217;s easier to do it this way and ensure I have both options to choose from in the edit &#8211; rather than trying to switch my on-camera flash on &amp; off while shooting fast.<\/p>\n<p>The colored spots are from the DJ&#8217;s lights. \u00a0The white specs in the photo are the reflective flakes they periodically released from the ceiling, which is now backlit by the flash.<\/p>\n<p>More about the lighting &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This particular venue is tough to shoot in. \u00a0It has a black floor, black ceiling and black walls and dark drapes. I had to set up two additional flashguns on either side of the room to help give some kind of separation from the background for anyone I photographed on the dance floor.<\/p>\n<p>The two additional flashguns in this case were Quantum T2 units, set up at just over 1\/16th full power, and pointed directly at the dance floor.
