{"id":4293,"date":"2010-07-31T23:38:14","date_gmt":"2010-08-01T03:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/?p=4293"},"modified":"2017-08-12T14:02:21","modified_gmt":"2017-08-12T18:02:21","slug":"looking-for-the-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/looking-for-the-light\/","title":{"rendered":"looking for the light"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e226-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"901\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>photography technique &#8211; looking for great light<\/h1>\n<p>This afternoon I walked around the Princeton campus with a couple, Renee and David, looking for cool spots to photograph them. \u00a0I noticed the spread of light on a wall coming through an entrance way &#8230;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e225-900.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and I knew it would make for dramatic light that enhanced the texture on the wall. \u00a0The fall-off in light would also create a natural vignette &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e245-900.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perfect light and place to work with Renee and David. \u00a0I first set up Renee for the individual shot, and then had David come into the picture .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e245-900.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/images\/photo-session\/renee-david\/Renee-David-e245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>quality of light; positioning of our subject; and choice of background<\/h1>\n<p>The theme with this blog post is an accent to other recent posts &#8211; that for best effect, <a href=\"https:\/\/neilvn.com\/tangents\/available-light-portrait\/\">the choice of light and background needs to be deliberate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For a photo shoot like this &#8211; an engagement photo session of a client &#8211; as photographers we can&#8217;t just rely on serendipity to rear its head on occasion.
