Dance audition photographer (NJ)
For dance audition photographs and headshots, we will go over the list of required portfolio images for your dance team audition. With a careful look for flow of movement and body placement, we’ll make sure you have the necessary images.
Dance auditions typically require:
- A headshot that captures your spark and personality,
- First Arabesque
In this photo session we will also include any (or all) of the following poses:
- First Position,
- Tendu à la Seconde,
- Attitude Derriére,
- and even Fourth position.
And then to round off a fun photo session in the studio, we can work with a jump or a creative pose of your choice. So bring along a few example photos of your favorite dance poses and movements!
Wardrobe and styling
For auction photos it is usually recommended to wear a leotard, similar to what you would wear to the audition. Skirt and tutus tend to hide your form somewhat so aren’t recommended. For the headshot specifically, no more than very light make-up. We want you to look like you! Same for your hair style. Tidy and if preferred, in a bun. But that’s not an absolute requirement
About the studio experience
The studio is spacious with a variety of backgrounds, but we will most likely stay with white or light grey backgrounds. Dance audition photos usually require a neutral, bright background. I also use studio lighting that will give sharp and clear photos. The photo session itself is around 90 minutes long and is a fairly relaxed tempo. No pressure. The intention is that the photo session itself is a fun experience.
The studio has a dressing room, a restroom, and a living room area to set all your stuff down. There is ample free parking, and is easily accessible – no stairs and no steps. Just walk right in!
I shoot tethered to a computer, so we can immediately see the results on a larger screen. From there we can make adjustments to the dance poses and movements, as well as any changes in lighting or background that needs to be made.
My studio is in Fairfield, NJ, and is easily accessible to a wide circle of towns nearby – Wayne, Clifton, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Bloomfield, Montclair. You know, that entire area in Passaic and Bergen counties in northern NJ.
