Time-lapse of a mural, Philadelphia, PA

Time-lapse of a mural, Philadelphia, PA

Philly mural timelapse photographer Philadelphia

There’s always this fun element to watching a timelapse video – seeing how something is created over time. This creation of a mural in Philly unfolded over the space of 2 weeks, but via this long-term timelapse, we get to see it in just 2 minutes.

The timelapse cameras were mounted on the roof of a building across the road. They were in waterproof housings, and powered by solar panels. To add some visual interest to this video, I left one of the rainy days in so you can see when work paused with the rain coming down.

Because there were no railings or poles to clamp the camera units to, I set them up on heavy-duty tripods, weighed down with weights clamped to the legs of the tripods. Everything covered in plastic to protect the tripods against the rain. The cables you see there leading to the units, are from the solar panels which feed the batteries in these units.

The second camera is there as a backup. You know, just in case.
