This idea of how to modify that black foam half-snoot that I use to flag my speedlight with, was sent to me by Randall Todd. It allows the flag to be attached to the speedlight much easier than my less sophisticated method of using hair-bands.
“I have made and used Peter Gregg’s ABBC and found it to be very useful. Instead
of using his big rubber bands I went with a Velcro design. The attached photos should
show if fairly well. It’s simply 10-1/4″ of the fuzzy side of sticky hook & loop material
on the outside and about 9″ of “3M” rubbery shelf liner on the inside. I used a piece
of double sided carpet tape to attach the shelf liner to the foam bounce card, and of
course, added a one inch piece of the hook material at the end. This really makes it
quick to attach and remove. As you can see I applied this to your flag idea.
Please forgive the background, I was outside enjoying an ice tea at the time.”

Nice one. I simply used velcro to secure it to the velcro already wrapped around my flash. It seems there is so much velcro on my flashes these days, I could stick the groom to it if necessary.

Hi,
It is not easy to find double sided velcro. Atleast not here in Norway. Could you give us the source for this, please? Product numbers will also help. The shelf liner is also of interest.
I think I can locate the double sided carpet tape.
greetings,

Tried the attachment band which honlphoto.com sells ? It requires velcro for attachment.

I found my velcro at the fabric store, JoAnne’s in USA. I buy the one called Half and Half. It has adhesive only on the “hook” part, the “loop” part has no adhesive and is actually meant to be sewn on. But I just stick about 2″ of the hook part on the loop part and cut to lenght to wrap around what I need.
This is a great idea and thanks for sharing.

Instead of velcroing your flash, you could get an elastic band (e.g. the same that keeps our male underwear around our waist), glue it together sop that it fits snug to your flash head(s) and stick the velcro on parts of the band. No more velcro on the flash, that once in a while gets lost or prevents from fitting other modifiers and it saves you from making bands on all of our items, flags etc.

Hi Mark,
If it’s helpful, with the method above, there isn’t any velcro stuck on the flash as such, the two pieces of velcro are stuck on the snoot offset from each other so that the velcro attaches to itself when wrapped around the flash head.
Kind regards,
David
