Nikon D750 - Focus point missing target

Let's say that I take a photo of a girl and I focus on the right eye. But when I look at the back screen, I see that focus point missed, like in the image. Not on the eye where it should be. I am sure I put the focus point right on the eye, multiple times, but result is always the same, a bit to the left which causes images unsharp/soft at f1.4-f1.8

Later I tried to direct focus point a bit to the right, after I realised that, and images became sharper.

What is the problem? Is it the camera? Lenses are good on my other camera, so I think it is camera.

Here is the example, to see what I mean:

You are sure you didn't focus-lock and recompose a little bit?

What software are you using to check the AF points here?

This is interesting either way - because I don't use the outer focus points of my Nikon D4 bodies, even after having sent them in for the same thing - calibration of the AF points. I just can't trust them to nail the foes.

Neil, I never use re-compose method. Somehow never get to use of it. :) In the meanwhile I dig a bit on the interent and discovered that D750'd firmware was updated from 1.02 to 1.10 in which they repaired missaligned focus points. Now everything is OK. I also did some AF fine tuning and images are finally sharp. Needed +14 for my 85 1.4, but it focuses now. :)

    Aaah, good to know!
  • AF Fine Tune is a great tool.  My D810 requires +20 (full range), which is a bit unsettling to push this adjustment to the limit.  But, that seems to be what it takes with the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 @ f/1.4 to get consistent sharp focus.  Is this common needing to adjust AF Fine Tune for the 85mm that extreme?

I have +11 for my 85 1.4 and +20 for sigma 35 1.4. So I guess it is OK. As far as I know, this fine tune is very small change, so even if it is +20, it is very small. :)
