  • Thanks for the input Trev...it was the groom who emailed me about this so the couple seems to be on board with it, and even though the wording of the email implies posting the shots during the wedding event I don't think that is what they meant..I w…
  • Seems to me that the white would create some harsh light on the subject since it is pretty small, and I think the light reflecting off the white would also be brighter than the bounced light since it is traveling far less of a distance, making the h…
  • I know that Neil uses (or has used) Pictobooks and I decided to give them a shot. I just received my first album from them last week for a bridal show and the quality is superb...I went with one of their higher end options in 11x14 with a genuine le…
  • Thanks for the input Trev and Zenon.. I am not a pro either (and as a brief side note I'm not sure how to respond when people refer to me as a "professional photographer"...I mean I have a website and some pro gear and produce decent work but I'ts…
  • Thanks for the instruction Trev...stunning shots from the plane!
  • Thanks Trev..that sounds like a good plan but won't work as well for me because I am a part time photog and essentially offer a disc or dropbox files with all the images as part of my pricing but don't really do any prints, canvases beyond that...wh…
  • My second favorite genre after people is macro, especially bugs...and really especially dragonflies.
  • Here is my site. I went with a black background because I thought it looked refined, but during my individual tutoring session with Neil (which I highly recommend) he recommended a lighter bg with perhaps some frilly tidbits to appeal to the feminin…
  • I had the same problem and thought it was the SB900. I bought an SB910 and it did the same thing, the flash will just start firing randomly multiple times without pressing the shutter button. The camera power also stays on much of the time when I sw…
  • Thanks for those extensive and very informative answers Lou and Trev. I've been a learn on the fly kinda guy since I started my business a few years ago and I obviously have much to learn about shooting weddings...my problem is I have a separate ful…
  • When you go into high speed sync the flash has to flash multiple times to account for the fact that the rear curtain is starting to move before the front curtain reaches the end of the sensor. If it only fired once the rear curtain would block part …
  • Thanks for chiming in Neil...I'm not sure if I was in AF-C or S when I was having the issue during the wedding, but the AF seems to be working fine in AF-S with my speedlight on now..the big test will be at my next wedding tomorrow.
  • Thanks again Trev... The AF seems to search for a shorter duration than I would expect in these situations before it gives up. I do have the "release+focus" priority option in the CSM, but only for AF-C and not for AF-S. I did have an SB-900 on…
  • I use single point focus and the issue occurs prior to recomposing..the autofocus just stops searching and I can't trip the shutter.
  • Thanks for taking the time to comment Trev. I just did some test shots and it definitely seems to be happening in low light against dark surfaces. I noticed that both arrows on either side of the green dot focus indicator are blinking when the issu…
  • Spot metering was the issue....good call Allen, thanks for the help!
  • Take the plunge and go with the D700....I think the high ISO performance will be worth the cost for a wedding and they have gotten cheaper since the D800 came out. If you plan on shooting another wedding it won't be cost effective to rent every time…
