review: Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM Lens

review: Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM Lens

As Sony steps more firmly onto the market by adding new lenses for their mirrorless camera bodies, they have rolled out some spectacular optics. The Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM Lens  (B&H / Amazon)  is one of them. Just holding the lens, you will already be impressed by the weight, and how smoothly all the controls glide. It clearly has been designed to compete with the best optics available on the market, regardless of brand. During one of the photography workshops that I present at my studio, I took a few shots of our two  Read more inside...

review: Sony Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 ZA lens

review: Sony Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 ZA lens

One of the pieces of photo gear that I have lusted after ever since the first time I saw it, is the Sony Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 ZA lens  (B&H / Amazon). That combination of the Zeiss name tag and the sweet f/1.8 aperture on the telephoto lens, predicted this would be a lens to experience. Then I had a photographer in Germany, Thomas, asked about doing an personal workshop on flash photography  Read more inside...

review: Sony Alpha a7R camera

Sony is still on fire with their new camera releases. There is the delicious full-frame compact  Sony RX1 (Amazon).  (Read my review of the Sony RX1).  For a relatively long while, the best compact camera on the market was the Sony RX100 (Amazon) which was improved with the Sony RX100 II (Amazon). The full-frame Sony A99 DSLR also received great reports.  So no doubt about it - Sony makes great cameras. Another trend that has gained momentum in the last year or two - Mirrorless cameras. Without the bulk of the mirror and  Read more inside...

Bokeh comparison: Sony RX1 vs Nikon 35mmm f/1.4G

Sony has been on fire recently with their new camera releases. The Sony RX100 is arguably the best point&shoot on the market right now. The full-frame Sony A99 DSLR has been getting great reports ... and then there is the new Sony RX1 (B&H / Amazon) - full-frame goodness in a compact camera with a fixed 35mm f/2 lens. And just in anyone has missed the crucial news - Sony cameras use Zeiss lenses. The word "legendary" is usually automatically associated with the word Zeiss. A quick summary of what makes the Sony  Read more inside...
