Video clip: behind-the-scenes during photo session w/ Ulorin Vex

I've posted some of the images from the recent photo session in my studio, with Ulorin Vex - and here is the behind-the-scenes video clip. The instructional stuff will be in the related articles - this is more of a glimpse of the rhythm of the shoot in the studio.  Read more inside...

Video clip: Studio photo session w/ Anelisa

To promote my studio as a rental photography studio here in New Jersey, I created this video clip. It's not quite a behind-the-scenes clip since my intention was to show some of the diversity that is possible in the studio. Using different lighting, and different backgrounds and setups, the final photographs look quite different. Gallery of images of photo session with Anelisa, and other models subsequently. Using the Canon EOS 6D in movie mode

Using the Canon EOS 6D in movie mode

To test the Canon EOS 6D camera (B&H / Amazon), and the Canon 24-70mm f4.0L IS lens (affiliate), I met up with Anastasia Z in New York. She had such presence and confidence, that while shooting stills of her earlier in the day, I had an idea of a video sequence we could do. And with that, here is an overview of how well the Canon 6D fares as a video camera. So when the light levels starting falling this afternoon, we went to Times Square, which is always insanely lit up by the numerous billboards. An ever-changing  Read more inside...

Video tutorial : Direction & Quality of Light

Thank you to everyone that came out to the presentation at B&H’s Event Space. It was jam-packed! That’s always a big compliment. The photo was on B&H’s Instagram feed, and was taken in the minutes before the presentation started. And no, it’s not my doh! facepalm realization that I’ve forgotten something. The topic of the presentation was – Direction and Quality of Light – and it is based on the material in my new book. I do think this presentation was solid, and going by the stream of questions, very well received.  So  Read more inside...

Photo session with Ulorin Vex - BTS video

The video clip is a behind-the-scenes view (with some techie info) of the photo session with Ulorin Vex. This photo session was also the first time I tried out the Nikon D800, and I also got to play with my Profoto D1 studio light (500 Ws) (affiliate), for the first time. An exciting day.  Read more inside...

Amsterdam – A travelogue shot and edited on the iPad 3

Amsterdam - A travelogue shot and edited on the iPad 3

While isiting Amsterdam for a few days with my daughter, I decided to see how well it would work to shoot and edit a video clip on the iPad 3. In fact, do it all on just the iPad 3. Even though I had my Nikon D4 with me - a camera which is far more suited to shooting video - I decided that it might be fun to shoot and edit on the same device. While I could've shot the video footage more easily on my iPhone 4s than the clumsily large iPad, I wanted to edit on the same device, and the iPad offers a lot more real estate  Read more inside...

video clip: using the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites on a photo shoot

BTS video: using the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites

In my review of the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, I raved about the ease of use of the new speedlite by Canon that has built-in radio transmitters. The same with my subsequent review Canon ST-E3-RT Transmitter. This system is going to have huge impact! The behind-the-scenes video clip as I set every thing up, is of the photo session with Molly K where I used Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite (B&H / Amazon), and the Canon ST-E3 Speedlite Transmitter (B&H / Amazon), during an actual shoot. You can actually hear the  Read more inside...

review: Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter and Canon 600EX-RT

In my review of the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, I've already raved about the ease of use of the new speedlite - thanks to a menu system that you can follow without having to decipher it via a manual), but mostly because of the built-in radio control of the flash. This elevates the Canon 600EX-RT to a new level. As mentioned in my review, I really think this flashgun will change things in the photo industry. It's huge. The main advantages of the Canon ST-E3 Speedlite Transmitter (B&H / Amazon), is that you  Read more inside...

Alli & Scott - their wedding day - fusion clip

The latest Fusion clip where we blend video and stills to give a short form overview of the wedding day, is of Alli & Scott – their wedding day – Temple Israel of Lawrence, NY . They were also the couple in the recent article on photographing the bride & groom's portraits with video light. The Fusion clip was edited in iMovie, with the soundtrack from Triple Scoop Music. review: Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II

review: Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II

Canon updated their already highly regarded 300mm lens, with the Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II  (B&H / Amazon). For a review of the Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II. I wanted to try something a little different. I wanted to use the wide aperture of the lens, as well as the compression that a 300mm lens offers, to shoot video of a model, Lea Liu. Instead of just photographs, I decided and create a "moving portrait" of her. This will hopefully show some of the magic that you can get with a wide-aperture telephoto lens. The video footage was  Read more inside...
