Tangents – a 10-year anniversary
The Tangents blog has an anniversary of sorts around now – it’s been 10 years since I posted the first series of articles on flash photography.
Ten years!
Ten incredible years of consistently adding more material, and refining the existing material. In terms of longevity, this website surely has to be up there amongst only a few other photography websites.
This is a little bit of a self-high-5 … but it is also a really big thank you to everyone who has helped over the years, whether with advice or by posting questions, keeping this website thriving. And of course, there is still the same forward momentum. We’re not done here yet!
If you’re curious about this bit of history, this is where it all started. And if you’re lost entirely, this is a kind of a rough guide to the Tangents website.
Congratulation Neil on this milestone! Looking forward to the next 10 years…
Tangents blog is one of very few sources of information for me. This blog sped up my learning curve incredibly !
Thank you very much Neil !
For me the most important lessons was about direction of light, black foamie thing, posing and basics of using the speedlight !
One more time, thank you very very much !
Huge congratulations Neil and a massive thank you from me. You are one of the great web and print resources on how to learn flash. You certainly sped up my understanding and application of using on and off camera lighting.
Thanks again for all of the amazing content you’ve produced over the last 10 years
Thanks Neil for hanging in there! Your blog is the first one on my favorites list. I have learned an enormous amount from your posts and books, and admire your photography and teaching style – one of the best out there for lighting – IMO. I pass along your site info and recommend your books whenever I can. Here’s to the next ten!!!
Your website and books are an incredible source for learning and inspiration. Congratulations on this milestone. And please, keep on going!
Best blog for (but not limited to) on-camera flash photography. Well done Neil!
Thanks, Neil, for all you do for us, and all the information you convey to us. The Tangents Forum to me, as I tell my wife, is like Facebook to her – I visit at least a few times a day to “see what’s going on”.
Everyone can blog for a few weeks – but it’s TOUGH to do that for 10 years! Well done Neil on producing fresh content so regularly and educating photographers around the globe. Thanks – you’re a star *
Thanks for a great service to the photo community…… your blog has been a terrific help….. and after 10 years hasn’t lost an ounce of interest or inspiration.
Congrats!!!
Happy Anniversary. Thank you for doing this as it has helped me tremendously! I also have your books. I find as I surf the net that “The Black Foamy Thing” is now famous world wide. The famous bloggers always give you credit which is nice also. What a shame it was not something you could earn money from inventing. It is such a simple, inexpensive tool and does the job perfectly.
Wishing you continued success.
A great milestone Neil worth celebrating, thanks for countless hours you’ve put into this site.
How you find the time to write these great informative articles, answer posted questions quite often in great detail and also do your bread and butter jobs is beyond me, high five to you indeed!
I’m sure the next ten will be even better.
Tony
Congratulations Neil. Your blog has been a great source of education and inspiration (along with your books). Keep up the great work, I look forward to the next 10 years. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Congratualtions! Your blog is very important to many photographers around the world! I have learned and keep leraning so much from it and from your books! Thank you very much!
Greetings from Brazil
Neil,
Congratulations on the 10 year milestone, much deserved.
My single biggest learning experience? The BFT. Of course all the articles on lighting are fantastic as well, but the most defining for me was BFT. I had of course used bounce, white cards, etc. etc. and never thought of black as a great ‘flagging’ of light.
Congrats Neil! This is a very well-deserved anniversary.
All the best from Germany, and please keep on shooting and rocking and inspiring !!!
Tilo
All the best from Guam . . . thank you for the informative posts, as well as what I learned from you in one of your seminars (where I learned about the the black foamie thing) a few years ago in Seattle. Still have the black foamie thing that you gave each student . . . I wish the best and hope to be reading your posts for another 10 years.
A heartfelt thank you, Neil, for the time, energy and perseverance you put into this wonderful – literally full of wonder – blog!
Well done and thank you for all great articles, books and tips.
I’ve been following you for 6 years now. The oldest email I have from the tangent newsletter is “Tangents – March 2010 newsletter”
I don’t know how I came to your website but it was a great revelation! Thank you for all these great tips and learning. I wish you another 10 years (or as much as you want!).
Congratulation
Neil, congratulations on 10 years! What a wealth of information you have shared.
I see my first email to you was in Nov 2008, and between your website first, and then three of your books, and then two Crafsty videos, flash comes natural to me because of all I have learned from you.
Thanks again, and hope the next 10 years are even better than the last 10.
Alan
Congrats Neil and thanks for all the tips!
Congratulations Neil. I’ve been a quiet but loyal follower for years. The information you provide here has been invaluable to me, especially when I had the opportunity to second shoot nearly 20 weddings a few years ago. Your lighting techniques for small flash are fabulous as is the information in your books. Thank you.
Congrats! Your blog is one of the best photography blogs ever.
Dear Neil, huge congratulations! Your wonderful blog has grown up :). I learnt a lot and continue to do so from you. Massive thanks and good luck. Here’s to 20 more for the best blog on the interwebz. Pop the cork! Cheers.
Cool photo at the top, by the way! Got me thinking about the light here ;). Cheers again.
Wow, 10 Years… A very happy birthday Neil, still remember discovering your website, reading again and again, slowly started practising for real. The great articles, great books, forum, a BIG THANK YOU.
